Support for projects with Africa
by Ingemar Pongratz
The European Commission is in the process of launching a new (old) programme which aims to provide funding for project with a clear Africa dimension. These calls will not be supported through Horizon 2020 but rather will received financial support from other European funding sources, such as the European Commission Development Cooperation Instrument (DCI).
The calls are expected to be launched in early 2016 and in 2017 and the programme will support project in the area of Food, Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture.
The programme is open to European Organizations and numerous African partners such as universities, research organisations and possible also Civil Society / Non-Govermental Organizations (NGO)
The Pan-African Programme provides dedicated support to the Africa-EU Strategic Partnership and cover the whole African continent. The programme is aligned with the 2014 2017 Roadmap and covers topics such as Food safety, Sustainable Development and Growth, Peace and Security among other.
Late 2014, the programme support 12 projects with a total funding of 107 Million Euros in covering topics such as Research Ingrastructure, Finance Manegement, Development of Statistics and Migration.
In previous calls (2012) the projects were evaluated by the African Union Commission (AUC) – Human Resources Science and Technology (HRST) authority.
It is expected that the future calls will follow similar topics and priorities and in addition the topics will most likely support the ongoing process towards the establishment of a EU-Africa Research and Innovation Partnership in the field of Food and Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture (FNSSA)
